186 - baking up trouble - part 4

The moral of today's comic is: when you are trekking through a swamp, never forget your dot repellant.

Oh! I have exciting news! Over the last few
weeks I've been working with the extremely talented Will from Calico Monkey
to make an animation based on characters from the comic! Ok, admittedly
when I say 'I've been working with', I mean that Will did all the hard
work, and I just occasionally said things like 'make emotibot grin
more' and helpful stuff like that. But I think that's probably the most
important role. I am a MANAGER.

Will was great to work with
and it's really been a lot of fun seeing this project grow up from
storyboards to a finished piece, so I hope you folks will enjoy it to.
Anyway, the animation is called 'Emotibot and the Butterfly' and you can view it by clicking on this bit of text here.
Will is going to be submitting it to a couple of competitions including
the Nickelodeon Animation Festival, so maybe it will even get on TV.
WHO KNOWS?

I've been trying to put a bit more effort into the backgrounds lately - hopefully the days of Beaver and Steve floating in a mysterious blue void are over. Is it an improvement? And I might put more tenuous metaphors in in future too. I quite like them.

Oh, and because of the site redesign on the main page this comic is 50 pixels wider than usual. That's right: there are going to be 50 pixels more FUN every monday and froday from now on! Woo!

Noooo! Can't get into the animation!
I am most impressed by Steve's utter lack of climbing ability.

(2.6.06 10:54)
I can't either *sniff*

The climbing panel makes me think of The Princess Bride, where they're climbing the cliffs of insanity.

Oops! All fixed now!

(2.6.06 11:11)
Fantastic! And the animation is ace - he speaks!
I would give sweeties, but I seem to have run out. HA!

(2.6.06 11:13)
Hooray! It works!

(2.6.06 11:16)
Veh good indeed.
Oooh look what I found ...

(2.6.06 11:17)
Bugger. Sweety-handy-overy-thingy not working. Poo.

(2.6.06 11:17)
kate - just you wait until the 24 hour no-more-sweeties embargo ends...
pog - I guess I'll just have to wait until the 24 hour no-more-sweeties embargo ends...

Is that an elephant or a horse in the background?

(2.6.06 11:33)
Well spotted. It is an elephant. In a top hat.

What sort of monster would have a panda pit for unsuspecting sorts to fall into?
Panel 3: It could be a photo of the amazon.

(2.6.06 11:34)
The archethingie is creepy - those eyes!

(2.6.06 11:36)
pan - that's archAethingie actually.
rick - I am going for a photo-real look.

(2.6.06 11:40)
the animation was lvoely Babs! The moment when delgith was turned on was a masterpiece, nothing less.

PS - I am vry excited about the shirt.

(2.6.06 12:00)
I always thought the lack of backgrounds was a plus ... until I saw the backgrounds.

(2.6.06 12:06)
moobs - me too. The scales have fallen from my eyes.
nut - don't applaud me - it's mostly Will's work! P.S I will put it in the post this weekend.

(2.6.06 12:35)
I am getting rid of all my sweeties in a give away frenzy. Enjoy.

(2.6.06 12:42)
I love how Steve is contributing nothing to the effort of scaling the cliffs.

If I were beaver I would have kissed the frog prince, forgot about the demon and went home to my new palace!

(2.6.06 13:23)
The archaeopteryx in the distance looks a bit like a duck that's about to throw a paper plane. Although it might just be an archaeoptical illusion.

(2.6.06 13:33)
Squish, that's dreadful.

Sweetie for the baboon!

(2.6.06 13:56)
Delightful.

(2.6.06 14:19)
Damn those dots and never have pandas looked so plantive. Fabuloso.

(2.6.06 14:20)
That final sweetie will not be given! Damn you 20six. Damn it all to hell.

panda_eyed / Website (2.6.06 14:29)
The mewling pandas are kewl! I love how Beaver does all the climbing and Steve hangs like brick. I think I'm in love with Steve. Izza great comic today

(2.6.06 14:37)
The backgrounds are fantastic, just like the webcomic itself

(2.6.06 14:41)
panda - I wasn't sure this strip would be any good, but I was quite pleased with how it turned out in the end - and I'm glad you liked it too!
bobble - it is tantalizing isn't it? I know I have sweeties left but it won't let me hand them out!
squish - ouch. And now you have made me want to change all references to the word 'archaeopteryx' to 'duck about to throw a paper aeroplane'. I would only have to redraw one panel and the strip would be infinitely improved.
rosie - I think the prince has got quite used to being a frog by now. He's happy to just sit there eating swamp dots for the rest of his life.
cookie - I think his legs are probably a little stumpy for rock climbing.

(2.6.06 15:01)
Here ya go, darl'. I've heard this was the place to scatter some sequins.

(2.6.06 15:49)
i'm sure you're overdue a few from me..

and the Princess Bride rawks...

(2.6.06 18:46)
Love the animation. The music's rather good too.

(2.6.06 18:46)
Ooh look, i managed to give away a sweetie. Here, have my last one before it's too late.

Moovok Mike / Website (2.6.06 20:56)
